The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, INC is an IRS-designated
Section 501 (c) (19) tax-exempt organization.  Donations to the VFW and its subordinate elements are tax deductible to the full extent of the Law.

Objective:

VFW Post 8469 seeks to raise funds to update and improve it’s post home in order to accommodate its expanded membership and make it handicap accessible.

Background:

  • The current post home is a former family residence, two-story house, located at 5703 Vogue Road, Fairfax Station that was transferred by deed to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8469 on 19 December 1986.  Since then, VFW and the Auxiliary have used the house and grounds for their Membership Meetings and other official activities, and for monthly social events.

  • VFW Post 8469 is an integral part of Fairfax City and Fairfax County community activities.  We do this through direct support to veterans programs including the Fairfax County Veterans Docket, VA Hospital visits, veterans funerals, the Fairfax City Veterans Day and Memorial Day Ceremonies, and the Fairfax City Independence Day parade.  We also indirectly support the community through charitable donations to other veterans programs in this community from funds we raise.

  • Other VFW programs include Student, Teacher, Law Enforcement and First Responder, and JROTC and Civil Air Patrol recognition.  The post also directly supports a variety of other community events including multiple scout troops, Rotary clubs, Civil War re-enactors, local Hogs for Hero’s (veterans motorcycle club), and community wedding and birthday parties.

  • As Membership has grown over time the house in its current configuration no longer has the capacity to support the VFW and Auxiliary’s meetings.  Worse, this house is not handicap accessible which precludes our ability to fully support our older and disabled members.  We consistently are forced to secure an alternate facility to support special events and activities such as the recent visiting veterans Honor Flight for that very reason.  New structural additions add much needed meeting space capacity to address current membership levels and future growth and makes this VFW Post fully handicap accessible. This expansion and improvement benefit our membership as well as multiple community organizations.  The planned construction start date  is June 2023.
