VFW Post 8469 thanks everyone who contributed to our successful Phase 1 project. We made our Post home fully ADA-compliant and brought the building up to code.
Objective for Phase 2:
We will construct an addition to the Post building to accommodate the expanded membership, Post activities and increased operational tempo of our veterans’ assistance programs.
Phase 2 Goal: $500,000
Background:
-
Our current post home, built in 1898, is a former family residence, two-story house, located at 5703 Vogue Road, Fairfax Station that was transferred by deed to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8469 on 19 December 1986. Since then, Post 8469 and our Auxiliary have used the house and grounds for Membership Meetings and other official activities, as well as for monthly social events and select fund-raising opportunities.
-
VFW Post 8469 has been and remains an integral part of the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County community activities since our charter in October 1946. We do this through direct support to veterans’ programs including the Fairfax County Veterans Docket, VA Hospital visits, veterans’ funerals, the Fairfax City Veterans Day and Memorial Day Ceremonies, and the Fairfax City Independence Day parade. We also indirectly support the community through charitable donations to other veterans’ programs in this community from funds we raise.
-
Other Post programs include Student, Teacher, First Responders, JROTC and Civil Air Patrol recognition. The post also directly supports a variety of other community events including multiple scout troops, Rotary clubs, Civil War re-enactors, and community weddings, birthday parties and other special events.
-
As Membership has grown over time the house in its current configuration no longer has the capacity to support the VFW and Auxiliary’s meetings. We consistently must secure an alternate facility to support special events and activities such as the visiting veterans Honor Flight for that very reason. The new structural addition will add much needed meeting space capacity to address current membership levels and future growth. This expansion and improvement benefit our membership as well as multiple community organizations. The Phase 2 construction in planned for 2025.
